Capturing the hearts of San Francisco One Event at a Time, Fairmont San Francisco
There is arguably no greater triumph story in San Francisco from the early 1900s than that of the famed Fairmont Hotel. Built as an ode to their father, Silver King and noted Gold Rush era personality James Fair, the Fair sisters, Tessie and Birdie, commissioned the Fairmont Hotel atop Nob Hill and were about to bask in the glory of the opening of the city’s greatest hotel on the morning of April 18, 1906, when terror struck.
The great San Francisco earthquake shook Northern California and leveled the city. What came next was far worse than the damage from the quake. Dozens of fires spread throughout the city at an alarming rate and caused damage to nearly all the structures that withstood the earthquake, including the Fairmont.
One year to April 18, 1907, the Fairmont opened with the help of a relatively unknown local architect, Julia Morgan, launching her career and opening finally, San Francisco’s most celebrated hotel and the namesake of the Fairmont brand.

Leaving Hearts in San Francisco
It's hard to name a major American entertainment figure of the 40s, 50s, and 60s who did not perform on stage at the Venetian Room. When this art-deco-styled supper club opened in the mid-1940s, it quickly became a must-stop locale for all iconic performers and legendary voices.
The room was the place to be with lush red interiors, a swinging house orchestra, and jacketed waiters in a room filled with candlelit tables and the city’s chic. With some of the brightest stars and up-and-coming artists that would make a name, the Venetian is most known for where the legendary Tony Bennett’s iconic “I Left My Heart In San Francisco” debuted in 1961.
To this day, the room continues to host legendary events and moments. Yours could be next.
