Name: Sheena Majette

Company Name: SLM Education Solutions, LLC

Job Title: CEO

Years of Experience: 26

How were you able to adapt during COVID-19 when the meeting and events industry got disrupted?

The pandemic brought unexpected challenges to the meetings and events industry as a whole. I found it to be a great opportunity to reinvent myself as well as reimagine how events are planned, developed and executed to foster better outcomes. I seized an opportunity to launch a full service event consulting company that focuses on creative and innovative approaches to event programming and overall event design. I was able to leverage my knowledge and skills with virtual events and enhance them to better serve clients. I continuously brainstorm with individuals in the technology industries with whom I have built great relationships to foster solutions for clients on how to best prepare and leverage technology for the future of events. I find this to be exciting times for the industry which is filled with opportunities to advance meetings and events from the past robotic state to new and exciting experiences for attendees and stakeholders.

As a planner, what was the number one thing you learned over the past year?

That there were a lot of hidden skills in my toolbox. It is very exciting to pull them out and leverage, grow and enhance them to propel the industry to new heights.

Is there anything you are changing in your planning process moving forward as a result of the pandemic?

I am learning to be even more creative and take more risks. I am determined to lean in to all the new, innovative and creative energy motivated by the pandemic.
